Biotech Corridor Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Rockville Economic Development, Inc. (“REDI,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Biotech Corridor website at biotechcorridor.com (the “Site”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect information when you visit the Site, use the Services, create an account, or become a member.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide
    • Account information: name, email, company, job title, password
    • Membership information: tier selection, billing contact
    • Payment information: processed by third-party processors (Stripe, Paypal); REDI does not store full payment card details
    • User Content: directory profiles, listings, event submissions, collaboration hub inquiries, messages
    • Communications: emails, support requests, survey responses
    2.2 Information Collected Automatically
    • Device and usage information: IP address, browser type, pages visited, time on site
    • Cookies and similar technologies
    2.3 Information from Third Parties 

    We may receive information from external data sources used to populate aggregated content (e.g., funding opportunity feeds, event aggregators) and from payment processors confirming transaction status.

    3. How We Use Information

    • Operate, maintain, and improve the Site and Services
    • Process membership payments and manage accounts
    • Facilitate connections between members through directory, marketplace, and messaging features
    • Send transactional communications (account notices, renewal reminders, receipts)
    • Send marketing communications (with opt-out option)
    • Comply with legal obligations and protect REDI’s rights
    • Generate aggregated, de-identified analytics for program reporting and economic development purposes

    We use the Device Information that we collect to help us screen for potential risk and fraud (in particular, your IP address), and more generally to improve and optimize our Site (for example, by generating analytics about how our users browse and interact with the Site, and to assess the success of our marketing and advertising campaigns).

    We use the Registration Information you provide (such as your company name, email address, and capabilities) to manage your user profile, populate the searchable Company Directory, and facilitate connections in the Biotech Collaboration Hub.

    1. Public vs. Paywalled Profile Data: By creating a company profile, you consent to having basic information (such as your company name, website, address, and a short description) displayed publicly to all visitors. Additional details, such as “Key Contacts” (name, title, email address) and “Funding Data,” are kept behind a paywall and will only be visible to other registered or Premium tier members.
    2. User-to-User Messaging and Matchmaking: The Biotech Collaboration Hub features a messaging or inquiry system that allows users to connect directly through the platform to discuss services, capabilities, and partnership interests. We store these communications to facilitate platform functionality. We advise users not to share sensitive or confidential intellectual property through these general inquiry forms.
    3. Automated Email Alerts: If you choose to opt-in via your Member Dashboard, we will use your email address to send you automated system alerts when new collaboration hub listings match your criteria or when relevant funding opportunities are posted. You can manage your subscription preferences and opt out of these alerts at any time through your Account Settings.
    4. REDI will not: (a) “sell” or “share” Personal Data; (b) retain, use, disclose or otherwise Process  Personal Data outside of REDI’s direct business relationship with you or for any commercial or other purpose other than the purposes specified in the agreement(s) between you and REDI, except as permitted by Applicable Law; or (c) combine your Personal Data with personal data that REDI receives from, or on behalf of, other persons, or collects from REDI’s own interaction with a consumer, except as permitted under Applicable Law and your agreement with REDI. REDI has the right to process your Personal Data in order to comply with REDI’s legal obligations (e.g., compliance with sanction laws) or in order to prevent, detect or investigate fraud. 

    4. How We Share Information

    4.1 With Other Users

    Information you choose to include in public listings (directory profiles, marketplace posts, event listings) is visible to other users and Site visitors according to your tier and listing settings.

    4.2 With Service Providers

    We share information with vendors that support our operations, including payment processors, hosting providers, email service providers, and analytics tools. These providers are bound by confidentiality and data protection obligations.

    4.3 With Partners and Funders

    As a nonprofit economic development organization, REDI may share aggregated, de-identified data with partners, board members, funders and government agencies for program reporting purposes. “De-identified data” means information that has been de-identified, aggregated and/or anonymized in accordance with applicable Privacy Laws so that it does not identify an individual.

    4.4 Legal Disclosures

    We may disclose information when required by law, court order, or to protect REDI’s rights, safety, or property.

    4.5 Maryland Public Information Act

    REDI is a quasi-governmental entity and is subject to the Maryland Public Information Act, §4-101 et seq. of the General Provisions Article, Annotated Code of Maryland (MPIA). Records shared with REDI may become the subject of a public information act request. Any records from you that are confidential or proprietary must be marked as such. REDI retains the right to determine what records must be disclosed under the MPIA, provided however, that if a public information act request is received that concerns a record you have marked as confidential or proprietary, you will be notified in writing prior to REDI responding to the request.

    5. Payment Data

    Payment card information is collected and processed by our payment processors (Stripe, PayPal). REDI does not directly store credit card numbers or full payment credentials. We receive limited transaction confirmation data to manage your membership.

    6. Cookies and Tracking 

    We use cookies and similar technologies to operate the Site, remember preferences, and analyze usage. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though disabling cookies may affect Site functionality.

    7. Data Security

    We implement reasonable security measures to protect personal information. However, no system is completely secure. REDI will adhere to appropriate administrative, technical and physical safeguards and practices consistent with the sensitivity of the personal information processed on your behalf, to protect such information against theft, loss and unauthorized access, copying, modification, use, disclosure or disposal (a “Security Incident”). 

    In the event that REDI has confirmed that a Security Incident has occurred, REDI will: (a) notify you without undue delay and as soon as practicable after becoming aware thereof; (b) promptly furnish to you full details of the Security Incident; (c) take commercially reasonable steps to eliminate or contain the exposure of the personal information, and keep you informed of the status of the Security Incident and all related matters; (d) use reasonable efforts to assist you in investigating or preventing the reoccurrence of a similar Security Incident; and (e) provide reasonable assistance and cooperation requested by you with respect to any reporting and notification that you may be required to make to affected individuals, privacy commissioners or third parties.

    8. Data Retention

    We retain personal information as long as needed to provide the Services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Member data is retained during active membership and for a year after termination.

    9. Your Rights and Choices

    • Access, update, or correct your account information through your account dashboard
    • Opt out of marketing emails through the unsubscribe link in any message
    • Request deletion of your account by contacting us
    • Control cookie preferences through your browser

    10. Children’s Privacy

    This site is not allowed to be used by children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. 

    11. International Users

    The Site is operated from the United States. If you access the Site from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S.

    12. Changes to this Policy 

    We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the Site or email. Continued use of the Site after changes constitutes acceptance.
